Dry Eye Clinic
Dry eye syndrome is the most common eye condition in the UK, affecting approximately 20% of the population. However, despite being called ‘dry eye’ syndrome there are a number of other symptoms including:
- Sore eyes
- Itchy eyes
- Blurred vision
- Sensitivity to light
- A gritty sensation in the eyes
- Excessive watering of the eyes
- Redness of the eyes and/or surrounding area
There are also a number of factors that can contribute to the onset of this condition, such as tiredness, incorrect contact lens use, medication and prolonged periods in front of the television/computer screen. Environmental factors such as air conditioning can also play a part in the eyes failing to lubricate themselves properly.
Our optician Tanveer has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to treating dry eye syndrome. She has been accredited for her treatment of dry eyes and also works in a practice that was short-listed as UK Dry Eye Practice of the Year 2013. She has even written an article in an international contact lens journal about the condition.
By performing certain tests Tanveer can determine the cause of your condition and recommend the appropriate treatment.
Following her examination Tanveer may recommend a combination of the following therapies:
- Lubricating eye drops
- Warm compresses
- Lid massage/hygiene
- The EyeBag
- Prescription medications
- Food supplements (omega 3 fatty acids found in fish oil ,walnuts and flax seed)
- Advice on environmental factors
Tanveer will give you a concise treatment plan and advise you to return for a review a few weeks later.
“Every case of dry eye syndrome I see is different. It’s a debilitating condition that is often ignored by GPs. I love getting the positive feedback from clients whom I have treated.”
