Tanveer will join thousands of runners in the Italian capital this April to run 26.2 miles in order to raise vital funds for the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR).
Tanveer is the senior optometrist at The Vision Clinic in Harrow. This will be her third marathon having run the London Marathon in 2015 and the Paris Marathon last year. She has raised nearly £5000 for the charity Fight for Sight, the UK’s leading charity that funds pioneering eye research to prevent sight loss and treat eye disease.
This year Tanveer has chosen to support another cause close to her heart. “I really wanted to support the United Nations Refugee Agency because it works to protect and assist refugees everywhere. There are over 21.3 million refugees in the world today and more than half of them are under 18 years of age. None of us can forget that haunting image of a drowned child being recovered from the sea. When I saw that footage, I was determined to raise funds for this charity which literally saves lives…”
To support Tanveer and the UNCHR , The Vision Clinic will donate £1 from every eye examination between January and March to this great charity.
Most recently, the UNHCR in Lebanon has provided help to 870,000 people in need. This includes providing cash assistance to allow vulnerable families to buy fuel and other winter essentials. They also distribute blankets, stoves and materials to enable people to weatherproof their fragile shelters.
